Hey guys, in this post I wanted to show some examples of the different genres of magazines I want to choose from. So, let’s look at examples of each genre.

Option 1: Food

For a food magazine example, I choose to use an example from Food Network. In this example, the magazine has a cover design of Christmas shaped cookies with green frosting with a title in the center saying, “Easy Holiday Baking”. This shows that the concept of the magazine will focus on Holiday foods. It also highlights some of the things that will be discussed. In the upper center of the magazine, it shows circles with different dishes such as “spritz, gingerbread, crinkles, and sugar cookies”. Also, at the top of the magazine in the right corner is a jar with text below saying “How many chocolates are in this jar? $500 Prize!”. This is considered a puff since it attracts the attention of the reader since it offers a chance to win money. Near the bottom is a section saying, “Plus Peppermint Bark, Homemade Marshmallows, Pomegranate Sparklers”. This can be considered content since it is talking about additional recipes that can be made. Right below is another section of text that says, “New Gift Ideas for the cooks on your list”. This is another form of content since it talks about ideas for gifts to people who like to bake. Overall, the target audience is people who want to bake holiday treats, which are typically people at home. The concept is about holiday recipes, and the content is different recipes for the holidays.

Option 2: Travel

For the travel magazine example, I used an example from National Geographic. In this example, the cover design is a shot of a town in Italy. This can let us know that the main place that will be talked about in this magazine is Italy. Next to the text that says Italy it says, “From Liguria to Lazio, discover the country’s most unforgettable coastal escapes”. This can show that the concept will be about places to travel in Italy that are near water. It also shows at the lower right of the magazine a “+” symbol with text underneath saying, “Antwerp, Marrakech, Singapore”. This can show that other content in the magazine will be about places to travel in these cities. Then, below that, it says, “Brazil: Looking for Jaguars in the wild, wet Pantanal” and “Botswana: On Safari with scientists in the Okavango Delta”. These can be other articles in the magazine, which are forms of content. There is also a puff on the left lower side that says, “WIN! A luxury villa stay in Corfu”. This puff attracts attention from the readers since they have a chance to win a vacation leading to people being interested in it. Overall, the target audience is people in the UK who are interested in traveling. The reason for the audience being people from the UK is because this is a “UK Edition” which means it is sold in the UK. For concept, it is focused on places in Italy to travel to that are near water. As for content, it also has places like Singapore stated. This means that other places will be discussed in the magazine but not as much Italy.

Option 3: Sports

For the sport magazine, the cover design is a photo of the famous gymnast Simone Biles with white text to the right of her saying, “Simone in Full”. Below the white text is another piece of text that says, “The GOAT’s true greatness is still to come”. This tells us that most of the content will be discussed by Simone Biles. As well in the lower center it contains a “+” sign with text below saying, “Caeleb Dressel, Noah Lyles, Meet Team USA, New sports, New stars”. This shows the other content that will be discussed in this magazine. Lastly, at the top center it says, “Tokyo Summer Olympics Preview” and the top right says, “Special Flip Cover Tokyo Paralympics Preview”. The special flip cover can be considered a puff since it shows a preview of one of the events at the summer Olympics that are hosted in Tokyo. This gets readers interested in this event. This can also be considered content since it will go into detail about the event a little bit. Overall, the target audience is people interested or curious about topics such as Tokyo summer Olympics, Team USA, and Simone Biles. The concept is the Tokyo Summer Olympics, and the content is athletes from the Olympics and events related to the Olympics such as new sports added to the Olympics.
