Video Editing Practice Reflection

Hey guys, I am back with another update of what we have been up to. So, today we did an assignment about video editing. The assignment was to use these clips of B-roll and interviews and make a video. The video had to be at least 45 seconds long, had two interviews with one being the manager, clips of B-roll, and the use of Lower Thirds for the manager’s interview. I will put the final video at the end of this post.

For this practice, we used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the clips to make a final video. This was my first time using this software, so I was nervous I wouldn’t know how to understand it. Luckily, we were given videos that broke down all the steps to make a video on this platform. This helped in navigating the tools on Premiere Pro and helped make it easier for me to understand.

While creating this video, having a structure really helped me figure out where everything was. The image below shows the structure for the editing of the first 15 seconds of the video. The different colors help in identifying what certain things are. For example, the purple at the top of the timeline is the lower third that I added for when the manager's interview is introduced and the green at the bottom is a small sound clip to play in the background of the B-roll clips and the blue is the B-roll or interviews.

During this project, one challenge for me was trying to make my cuts clean or look clean. This one part below was the one challenge for me. It felt like the clip wasn't cut well and looked a little off, but I think that was me just being a little picky with the editing.

Throughout this whole process, I learned how it can sometimes be tedious, since it should look clean in the end. I also learned that a lot of effort goes into editing a video from multiple different clips. I think learning about this will help in my portfolio project. The reason I say that is because if I choose to do the 2-minute movie opening, I will already know how to use Premiere Pro, giving me a good understanding already for when it comes to editing.
