Hi guys, now that I've done all my research it's time for me to show you my plan for my magazine. For that, I need to have a project proposal. So that is what today's post will be about. For context a project proposal details what my plan is for the entire process of my magazine such as genres, target audience, and the software I will use for designing.
Introduction:
First off, if you forgot my name it is Sofia and I will be doing a magazine brief. The genre I choose to do is a food magazine. The sub-genre within food I want to focus on is about restaurants, specifically small local restaurants, and reviews about them.
The reason I chose this as a sub-genre and genre is because sometimes comments about foods can affect peoples opinion on them which I find interesting and so I wanted to learn how food magazines are put together and about reviews for restaurants. This also is a great way to advertise and gain popularity for these businesses.
Target Audience:
For the target audience, I want to focus on people interested in trying new foods at restaurants. There is no specific style of food I am referring to but more visiting restaurants. This is open to any age range but I want to focus more on young adults (between the ages of 17-30). To do that I want to discuss new upcoming restaurants that will work for this age range and have a creativity that will appeal to a younger audience.
As for a specific gender, I think this will be targeted to anyone interested in finding a new place to eat. It could even be ideas for hangouts with friends or a date night. For location, I want to focus around my local area and more small local businesses. This is because I want restaurants that are smaller to grow that business and I think it can be achieved by advertising it to people to help attract customers.
This magazine doesn't really focus on having shared interests or hobbies since it is around food. The only idea I can think of would be people who are interested in new restaurants, which this magazine would be perfect for. Overall, the target audience is focused on anyone interested in finding new interesting places to eat.
Social Issues/Representation:
For social issues and representations, it focuses on small restaurant businesses and the food they make and sell. This also can represent different cultures food. By exposing myself to these different food cuisines, it allows a representation toward the cultures reviewed which can help in informing people of the culture behind the food since sometimes people don't always know. These issues and representations can be conveyed in my magazine by choosing a restaurant to review that exposes a culture that might not be noticed a lot and introduce a small business to locals who are interested in a place to eat, or a specific genre of food.
Software:
I plan to use Adobe InDesign for this project and I would like to learn some skills for this brief. For this magazine I need to learn more about InDesign and the tools used to create a magazine with this platform. Luckily, I have some videos that explain how to use InDesign, including specific tasks.
I also plan to use Canva for the magazine. Canva will be used to copy and paste images to InDesign and show the layout design for that magazine or a rough draft of it.
When it comes to photography, I will be using my iPhone 16 to take the photos. Since I don't know that much about how to take magazine photos, I thought I would use my phone to take the photos or my digital camera.
The digital camera is from a brand called, "YesWhat" and the model is a "CAMEDIA C-4040". Though I don't typically use a digital camera, I think I can learn by looking at the manual or finding videos on how to use it. I also believe if I follow my photography conventions, that I researched in a previous blog, I will be able to create a good photo no matter the camera.
Plan:
March 8th:
- Finalize restaurant choice
- Visit a restaurant and order some popular dishes from this restaurant
March 9-10th:
- Look over photos and look if they need editing
March 10-19th:
- Finish the planning phase
March 20-25th:
- Start and finish Production of Magazine
March 25th:
- Post Final Brief
March 26-29th:
- Create/Film Critical Creative Reflections
March 30th:
- Publish Reflections and make any last edits or updates to any posts
Overall, this is my plan for my magazine. I think this can be achieved if I stick to my schedule and have ideas already. Since I already have ideas I need to show what inspired them and how I want to make it my own. I might need some additional practice with using InDesign, but I have some resources already I can start looking at. Anyways, I hope you guys look forward to my planning phase and seeing the vision, as well as, looking forward to the production phase later!
