Hey guys, now since we have talked about the conventions of a feature article, I want to talk about my idea and plan for my feature article for my magazine. So let me explain my thought process when brainstorming ideas.
When thinking of ideas, I was between two ideas for my feature article. The first idea was to do a restaurant review of a small local restaurant. This idea worked closely with the overall concept of restaurants for this magazine. The second idea I had was to talk about issues with today’s restaurants. Things like customer service, food quality, and delivery were some issues I can make a feature article about. In the end, I wanted the magazine to focus on shining a light on small food businesses, so I think the first idea will work as the feature article of this magazine. Now, I want to show some of my inspiration for how I want it to look and how it should be structured.
Inspo's:
This is one of my inspirations, mostly because of the layout. The layout here places everything to where it is easy to read. One part of this that I like is the rating system with stars. It creates a visual for the audience to see what they think of the restaurant. There also is an image of the look of the venue. This helps when talking about the decor and atmosphere in the text by showing the restaurant. It also helps provide the address for the readers if they are interested in visiting the restaurant.
Another part is the bold sub-headings. These sub-headings help separate the content in the paragraphs and make it focus on certain parts of the restaurant that they want to review. For this inspo, it focuses on the decor and atmosphere and the food at the restaurant. This can give an idea of how I can break down my review of the restaurant I choose. These parts of the inspo are things that I want to take and use for my magazine, for design and content.
This is another inspo for my magazine’s feature article. One main reason is the placement of the images on the spread. The reason I like this is that it shows a way of how I can place photos of the dishes from the restaurants to be back-to-back for the reader to see. This can also help me plan the number of photos I need to take for this article and be wise to pick the images to use. I also can learn from this article to focus my review on around 3 dishes and provide an image of the dish for the readers to understand the review.
Another reason is the information about the restaurant before getting into the review. Next to the paragraph, it says, “Feathertop” and is bold. The information below this sub-heading provides information about the cuisine type, address, form of contact, hours of operation, and ratings of the food, service, and atmosphere. I thought I could do this in my magazine to help the readers learn about the restaurant since the purpose of my magazine is to help introduce small local restaurant businesses. By providing this information it allows people interested in visiting the place to have the information to check it out for themselves. These two reasons are what I want to incorporate into my magazine from this inspo. These two points can help in making an organized layout and focus on my target audience.
Overall, these two inspirations both have elements I want to use in my magazine. From the first inspo, I liked the layout for the paragraphs with the sub-heading for an overview of the restaurant as well as the use of stars to give it a rating. The overall look of this inspo creates a simple look and organizes the different elements of the article. From the second inspo, I liked the placement of images and how many photos could be taken for the article as well as the information about the restaurant. The overall use of this inspo helps shows another look of a restaurant review that focuses more on showing the readers what the content is discussing.
The overview of this post helps show my plan of the article for both the look and the content inside the article. I think it can be achieved and create a creative look at a restaurant review.
